Dry Needling (DN)
Although Dry Needling utilises the same tools as acupuncture, different techniques and intention are used.
Originating from western medicine, DN effectively treats musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction by using sterile stainless steel fine filament needles. They are inserted into trigger point* zone areas that may be contributing to pain — either acute or chronic. DN has been found to be most effective when local twitch response of the muscles is elicited, which usually results in a reduction of pain and dysfunction. In acupuncture, needles can be inserted from between 15 to 30 minutes, whereas in DN it is typically for a shorter insertion time. DN is minimally invasive and carries low risk. Over multiple sessions DN should assist in lowering your pain levels. DN can be used in conjunction with massage.
